Douglas McCallum, Senior Vice President, eBay Europe

Doug McCallum was appointed Senior Vice President, Europe in January 2008. Prior to that he was for 6 years Managing Director of eBay UK Ltd., leading a team which helped grow the UK business from 0.35 million British users to over 20 million.

Doug has a passion for the people of business – customers, eBay company team members, Community members as well as shareholders. He is on a mission to lead changes in business which make meaningful positive differences for those people.

Doug began his career as a strategy consultant with Monitor Company, moving early on into operations and general management as the MD of a computer startup. After studying for a business degree in the US, Doug returned to London and became one of the pioneers of the UK Internet industry founding in 1995, the online consumer division of Capital Radio plc and later PretNet, the business-to-business division of Pret A Manger. Doug also founded or served as a director of a number of other British Internet companies.

Doug is a keen amateur tennis player and an enthusiastic singer. He jokes that he hopes eventually to retire on the proceeds of selling on eBay his most prized collectable: a still-functioning first production model of the Newton Personal Digital Assistant, great-grandfather of the iPhone, a trophy given to him by Apple Computer Company New Technologies team in Cupertino for his work on the product’s launch while a graduate student in 1993.
