eBay opens the doors to its first ever UK high street store- the eBay Christmas boutique

Love shopping but hate standing in queues and carrying bags?

Combining the best of both worlds, eBay is taking the pain out of Christmas shopping this year with its first Christmas Boutique. For the first time ever, eBay is opening a Christmas pop-up in London’s West End, but with an online twist. Shoppers can expect an exciting and new shopping experience, all from the palm of their hand.

The boutique showcases a huge selection of top gifts from leading brands, each with its own unique QR code and up to 70% off. Shoppers can browse, play, touch and buy gifts from within the four gifting inspiration areas within the Boutique:

  • · The Grotto (for the family), like the main living space of the average British family at Christmas time, the grotto is full to the brim of fun toys and all the festive essentials. The Den (for him), presented as a cool, bachelor pad, the Den will feature gift inspiration for the modern man. The Boudoir (for her) is an ultra feminine space featuring all the ultimate gifts for ladies this Christmas. The Just Browsing area is a safe haven from the stress and queues of the high street – customers can relax and use the free wi-fi to surf eBay in comfort

Capturing the imagination of passing shoppers, one window features still life displays of the most wanted gifts available from eBay this Christmas, from the new Harry Potter 8 disc DVD boxset (released 2nd December) to the latest gadgets

The Wish Window, designed for the person who has everything, will feature a display of eBay’s most amazing, unexpected and unique gifts - including the Save The Children celebrity handbags charity auction with Sienna Miller’s Miu Miu, Samantha Cameron’s Jimmy Choo and Tilda Swinton’s Chanel. Sam Bevington, an up and coming East London artist, will be displaying his modern pop art for the ultimate culture vulture, and shoppers will also be able to click to buy a limited edition Vespa

For those looking to bag a bargain golden QR codes will be displayed in the window alerting customers to Daily Deals on the eBay site

There will also be workshops for customers including ‘Apps For Beginners’ with, leading technology website, TechRadar, to key pointers on ‘Bagging a Bargain’ with fashion blogger Bargainista Fashionista. Shoppers can take part in the Q&A sessions on Friday 2nd December

For customers without smartphones, the space will feature secure ‘loan-phones’ and tablets

Miriam Lahage, Global Head of Fashion, comments;

“We are always evolving and enhancing the customer experience, harnessing the latest technological innovations to enable shoppers to interact with the site in the way they want. The Christmas Boutique is an example of this; it provides shoppers with some shopping inspiration as well as access to the best deals in a fun, convenient way. At eBay in the UK we now see around 10% of sales by value transacted on smartphones and tables. As ownership increases there will be even greater potential for companies investing in mobile, and this is particularly true for retailers. For eBay, it’s about putting mobile at the heart of our strategy and creating a site that is optimised for every device.”

The store is open from 1st to 5th December during what is anticipated to be the busiest online shopping weekend this year. eBay predicts another record breaking ‘Super Sunday’ as over five and a half million (5.8m) shoppers are expected to log on to eBay.co.uk to shop. That’s half a million more than last year, and equivalent to the entire population of Sheffield. Sales are forecast to peak at over 30 gifts every second, nearly double the 16 gifts per second bought last year via online and mobile platforms while up to 120 gifts will be bought via a Smartphone every minute.
